Happy Monday Everyone! I think I’ll be making this one short and sweet. I’m still on book tour this week and writing to you from the heart of the Blue Ridge in North Carolina. This incredibly beautiful place is the setting for the novel that will follow The Prayer Box (book 2 is coming in September 2014), so this part of the trip is book research… which makes it sound like work, but it’s not, really. In truth, these hours spent in the mountains as the leaves lean toward autumn are pure joy. How could a view like this be anything but?
After standing on top of that mountain (and actually figuring out how to take a panorama photo with the iPhone) I’m skipping back to the porch for our “Love It!” week. We’re gathering together for an old-fashioned gab fest, sharing products we love. Since I’m working with limited internet tonight, I’m going to make mine quick. Here are three new things I’ve discovered recently that I really, really love and think you might love, too. These would also make great gifts for those hard-to-buy-for folks on your Christmas list, too.
1. The Warm Whiskers eye pillow. Okay, I know this looks a little silly (and thank goodness that once you put it over your eyes, you can’t see yourself in it) but I really do love this little thing. I’ve been traveling with one, and after a long day in the car this little microwavable, lavender-filled bed buddy is the best thing ever for sore, tired, dry eyes or headaches. It’s relaxing, soothing, and fashionable (okay… so maybe not the third one). Warm whiskers come in several varieties, but here’s the link to the one I have, Lazy Leopard. He’s very handsome, fits well in a suitcase, and adds a little flare to any pillow. He’d also be a fun gift.
2. Slow Cooking for Two. I nabbed a copy of this book at the Southern Independent Booksellers Alliance Conference last weekend. While I haven’t been home to try the recipes yet, I have it on good authority from a couple friends that the selections are delicious and easy-prep. I love the idea of slow cooking cooker concoctions made in smaller batches. Another friend told me she does two different meals at a time by using slow cooker bags and preparing one meal in each bag, but placing them side-by-side in the cooker. Nice! I love my slow cooker, so I can’t wait to get home and try some of these! Here’s the link, if you’d like to slow cook for two right along with me. This would make a great gift for single friends, empty nesters, older folks, or even college kids!
3. Coconut Sugar. I also learned about this one at the SIBA show last weekend and… what a find! I’ve recently gone off artificial sweeteners (for reasons I won’t bore you with, but I feel SO much better and actually LOST weight after returning to sugar and honey). I was so thrilled to learn about coconut sugar while talking with the author of a healthy eating cookbook. Coconut sugar can be used in all the ways regular sugar is used, but it doesn’t spike blood sugar, and contains valuable nutrients. It’s actually good for you — go figure! It also has a wonderful, caramelized taste. You can buy it at a health food store or order it online. I haven’t tried the various brands, but here’s the Amazon page, so that you can check out the reviews for yourself.
Hope you find occasion to give some of these new “love it” products a try! What about you? Any products you can’t do with out? Leave a comment and share! We’d love that too ;o)
