Honestly, I’m living my dream job. Being a published author was the one thing I always wanted but was never sure

I’d achieve. I mean, agents and editors? Getting past the publishing gatekeepers? Me?
But by the grace of God and with some help from my friends, I was published in 2004. And by the same grace, stil
l published. I feel so amazingly blessed to get to do what I love doing. Even on the hardest days.
When I started college, I was torn between a teaching or journalism degree. My dad urged me toward journalism and I’m glad I listened. When I graduated, however, I ended up as an instructor for a software company who created a product used at newspapers. So I was training journalist and advertising reps.

Journalism, meet teaching.
So there’s always a bit of a desire to teach. Recently, I thought it’d be great fun to teach writing at my alma mater, Ohio State.
I’ve thought about getting my masters so I could teach at the college level, but then to teach at the Ohio State University, I’d have to get my Ph.D.
I’d rather write.
Though I’m hoping they call me up one day and ask me to be in some kind of fellowship where I get to teach for a semester. Wouldn’t that be a blast? So, yes, we are talking “dream” job here. Emphasis on dream.
My other dream job is to be a millionaire and give away lots of money.

“My other dream job is to be a millionaire and give away lots of money.” Me too, Rachel! I’m sure if you have the money, it’s much harder than it seems to figure out the best ways to use it, but that would be a great dream career!
Love ya, girl! Glad you’re living your dream job — and you would be a great writing teacher, much cooler than some of the ones I had in college =D

Rachel, don’t forget you’re also teaching writers to write, and readers all sorts of things, and those in your ministry to find grace…you are already a teacher
(and you can share those millions with me, if you want!)
