When I was a girl, picnics reigned in the Hayes-Fausnaugh families. I have lots of happy memories of gathering with family in southern Ohio at Lake Roosevelt and in central Ohio at the Indian Mounds.
If I felt like getting up out of my chair, I’d scan in some pictures to show you, but I’m watching Ohio State Basketball…
Picnics are part of my DNA. Though it’s been a long time since I’ve picnicked and I think that’s sad.
The Florida heat is prohibitive in the summer. But maybe this spring. I’ll resurrect the picnic tradition.
Nevertheless, what’s a picnic without potato chips! Seriously, it’s what every picnic needs. You’re not picnicking without chips. Fergetaboutit!
So, drum roll please… Here are my expert potato chip recommendations.
Ruffles Natural Chips. The Reduced Fat Sea Salt are my favorite. Great chips. Nice cut. Lightly salted. Perfectly formed. Beautiful golden chip.
A nice option for impressing a date or future in-laws. Goes great with any sub or salad.

Natural Cheetos. To die for. Amazing. Cannot each just one. Excellent flavor. Nice even white cheddar dusting on every puff. The bag should come with a warning: Can Eat Entire Bag In One Sitting.
A must for any party, picnic, impressing a date, in-laws or your boss. Take to the office party to be a hit. Everyone will want you to sit next to them at the next All-Hands meeting.
Goes great with sandwich, soup, salad or stand alone snack. Soothes the savage end-of-day beast.

Like the Cheetos, these Artisan Chips are not to be missed. They show your sophistication when you arrive at any picnic or party with a bag of these babies.
They come in several flavors but the Roasted Garlic and Black Bean are my favorite. Goes with any dish, especially chili if you’re having a winter picnic. But Artisan Chips are best stand alone with a guacamole dip.
Be the hit of your family picnic this spring and summer. Bring the Artisan chips. Don’t be cheap.

Father down on the “great chip list” but a solid contender Tostitos Hint of Lime chips.
Another great side to go along with the veggie platter or side to sandwich or soup. Nice touch for a more Mexican theme picnic.
Goes great with queso dip or guacamole.
Are you sensing a theme here?

Anything in the Kettle Cooked family is a good bet for your picnic plans. I prefer Lays but there are other stellar Kettle Cooked brands. Shown here is original but the Barbecue is always a popular option.
Crisp, well cooked, thin, these chips are great with any thing you bring to a picnic. In fact, they can just be a meal in itself.
I realize some of these chip options are on the pricy side. So if you’re on a budget, or in a hurry. Pringles is always a good option.

A can of Pringles says, “I care and I’m at least 50 years old.”
So be sure to take the best or best affordable chips to YOUR picnic this year.

Who can resist a good chip? It’s a picnic staple. Thanks for the tour through potato chip land, Rachel. I’m a big fan of the pringle — esp. making duck bills with it.
You and that husband hubby better get picnicking this spring!
