Dare to Dream. Then Dare to Make Those Dreams Come True!

This week we’re daydreaming…my favorite thing to do! I’ve always been a daydreamer, escaping into fantasy and causing everyone to repeat my name, “Julie? Julie? Pay attention.”

Like me, my daughter is also a daydreamer, and every year teachers have told me, “She drifts away.” I can only smile when they complain, knowing full well her mind is taking her to much more exciting places than their classroom lectures will ever do.

Even my horse is named, Baydreamer. When I found her, I knew she was the horse for me.

All that to say, I was thrilled to learn the question for today is: “If you could pick another profession, hobby, or life pursuit, what would it be? And why?”

Here’s the good news: I’ve already jumped right into a dream life, daring to release my first novel in February. While I love teaching, I had always dreamed of writing a novel.

Now, it’s been almost a year since that first story hit shelves, and I still can’t tell people “I’m a writer” or “I’m a novelist” without cracking a guilty smile. This writing life is a path I’m still trying to map, and it’s been an exhilarating journey, no doubt.

If I dare to dream even further, I admit I’ve always longed to travel the world. I’d love to become a travel writer, dashing off to secret villages and interviewing locals about their way of life. I’m fascinated by people and would love to learn all I can about different cultures, beliefs, and ways of life.

Sadly, I do get lost in my own driveway and have no sense of direction at all, but it’s my daydream, right, so I’m adding a very handsome guide to escort me through the wilds. In my daydream, that guide is Johnny Depp, but in real life, that handsome guide would be my husband, and honestly, I can’t imagine anything better than traipsing across the latitudes with him.

That’s it, really. Writing. That’s my dream job. Every single day I get to put words to page, I am grateful. This is the life for me.

Do you want to write? Travel? Teach? Preach? Heal? What do you REALLY want to do with your life? Now, go for it. I dare you!

Cracking a guilty smile — I know exactly what you mean, Julie! I feel that way too – it’s like we are getting away with something so fun when we say we are writers. Travelling the world with J. Depp sounds awesome! Wishing you many amazing writing adventures w/ your hubby.

Hehehehe! Take me along. This sounds like the ultimate book tour. Since I have no sense of direction, either, having Johnny Depp as our driver works for me.

Congratulations on making on of your dreams come true, Julie!

Julie, I’m with you on the guilty pleasure of being able to write words and have people read them! You’re a doll and it was fun to catch up with you in person this past weekend. I so enjoyed the graciousness you displayed on your panel! Good job~

JULIE….when you get thru with Johnny Depp….can I have him… I’m great at directions, but I’ll find a use for him….like maybe hang a frame around his head….

OH, Virginia…I have to warn you, if I ever get my hooks in Johnny, I may not let him go :) Shellie, you are such a hoot and I had SO much fun with you and Lisa in Texas. Rachel and Beth, I hope y’all can join us next time for the most amazing experience in the world…Pulpwood Queens Girlfriends Weekend. So fun it certainly adds to the “guilty” pleasure list. Cheers, j
